A Trip to the Shops is Due ~ plus Offers for Kilkenny Hotels

It is probably already creeping into your consciousness that Valentine's Day is coming up shortly. A time when you can buy the biggest card you can find so that you can show 'Big' love. You will do that, of course, if you are completly brainless and have an unstoppable predeliction to squander your money.

All the same, it will be hard to avoid taking a trip to the shops in the coming weeks to buy some token of your affection for your partner. That can be a pain for some. There are those who detest shopping, and there are those who revel in it.

We all know people who would happily spend innumerable hours gazing in shop windows, checking prices, styles, quality and value while always keeping a beady eye out for any new bargains. I expect if you are like that, you do what many do - travel with suitcases that are only half-full and that will be jammed with all the new 'buys' on the way back. It has to be said that this is a practical and genuinely good idea. After that, the only thing left to remember is that the best value doesn't come at the cheapest price.

If you are planning to visit us here in Ireland during the year you well find plenty to interest you beyond the usual plethora of souvenirs, and you find all the enticement you need in the upmarket department stores and glamorous boutiques. This is something you can discover for yourself especially in Dublin where a walk around brings you easily from one shopping area to the other. All best done, I must add when based in a one of the quality Dublin city centre hotels where convenience is at your doorstep.

We move a bit further south to Kilkenny for our feature offer for this post -

Lincoln comes to town ~ plus new Temple Bar Hotel Deals

So, how many of you were lucky enough to get an invite to the Dublin showing of the new Steven Spielberg film Lincoln which had its European premier in the  Savoy Cinema on Sunday.  Not many, I suppose, unless you have some special connection with the Hollywood glitterati.

The only comment one of my friends made  -  who is always available with a different perspective on the most mundane things  -  was to wonder if this would change things for Dr. Mudd.  This was a reference to Dr. Samuel Mudd who was unjustly convicted and imprisoned in the frenzy that followed the aftermath of Lincoln's assassination.  Many attempts were made to have his conviction for conspiracy overturned, but without success.

My friend might concern himself about that, but I doubt if many of the audience for Sunday's premier ever even thought about it.   Too much bubbly does tend to cloud the mind at the best of times.

Still, I think I will reflect a little more on the fate of Dr. Mudd, but I will do so in the comfortable surroundings of good Dublin pub  -  possibly in Temple Bar where one can meet people who seem to know a lot about everything.  That holds true for Lincoln, Mudd and every other subject under the sun.

Oh, yes.  And here's the next promotion.  You see, you can join me if you wish.

Waterford - quite a bit of History and some Excellent Hotels

Waterford City is a leisurely, enjoyable place to visit. Like Dublin, it has strong associations with the Vikings who founded the settlement way back in 914. It has quite a bit of history about it which the visitor can explore through the several interesting museums that detail the past life of the city. Add to that, good shopping, nice restaurants and some atmospheric bars and you will be certain to find plenty to occupy you during your visit.

A walk along the riverside has a pleasant relaxing feel and gives some sense to the reasons why the Viking traders first became interested in making this place the focus of their activities. Waterford's quays have a vibrant buzz about them, and is also the location of some of the city's excellent hotels. A standout choice among these is the superb Granville hotel. This highly regarded hotel is a family run establishment and has a deserved reputation for its friendly ambiance and professional standards - which naturally is 4-star quality throughout.

The hotel has certainly many impressive features to recommend it, but the two things that you are most likely to remember most are the drink and the food. You might think that this may not be surprising for any good Irish establishment, except that in the case of the Granville it is that bit more exceptional. What marks it out as special is that both the both the wonderful Bianconi restaurant and the delightful Thomas Francis Meagher bar possess a character, ambiance and easy class that many would strive to emulate, but only few can attain.

The Thomas Francis Meagher bar.
It would be superfluous to go into detail to explain why The Granville has got it so right. A host of loyal clients can attest to it, but the best picture one can paint won't outdo reality. Simply, it is best to experience it for yourself.

You won't need to journey further through this post to find the obvious choice for our current promotion, which naturally is for those excellent hotels in Waterford.
